A total of 90 research projects from across disciplines have been finalised for the prestigious Prime Minister’s Research Fund (PMRF) for December 2019.
IIT Bombay has topped all institutes with 25 of its research projects being selected for PMRF. IIT Madras and IIS Bangalore, each, have got 14 of their projects selected while 9 projects are from IIT Kanpur and IIT Delhi and 7 from IIT Kharagpur.
IIT-Bhubaneswar has got one of its projects selected for the funding.
PMRF is open for premier technical institutes in the country, including central universitie among the top 100 in the government’s ranking list. The PMRF scheme covers students who are pursuing their final-test BTech courses, M.Tech programmes or enrolled in integrated programmes.
The selected fellows will be offered admission to PhD programmes in one of IISc/IISERs/IITs and Central Universities. They will also receive a fellowship of Rs 70,000 per month for the first two years, Rs 75,000 per month for the 3rd year, and Rs.80,000 per month in the 4th and 5th year.
Apart from this, a research grant of Rs. 2 lakh per year will be provided to each of the Fellows for a period of 5 years to cover their academic contingency and foreign/national travel expenses.
