PM To Review Four Aspirational Districts Of Odisha On Nov 6

Bhubaneswar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will review the performance of four aspirational districts in Odisha — Nuapada, Rayagada, Malkangiri and Nabarangpur — on November 6.

According to officials, out of a total of 117 aspirational districts in the country, the PM will review 30 districts. While some have performed well in all the parameters, some have fallen behind.

In Odisha, Nuapada and Rayagada have fared well, but Malkangiri and Nabarangpur have failed to achieve the desired results.

During the review, the chief secretary of Odisha and the secretaries of the departments concerned will brief the PM on the implementation of central programs regarding health, livelihood, education and agriculture in the aspirational districts.

Steps will be taken to improve the performance of the aspirational districts that have not fared well.

Out of 117 aspirational districts, the Centre has identified 10 such districts in Odisha — Koraput, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Malkangiri, Rayagada, Nuapada, Nabarangpur, Balangir, Gajapati and Dhenkanal.

Launched in January 2018, the ‘Transformation of Aspirational Districts’ initiative aims to remove disparity through quick and effective transformation of the districts that have shown relatively lesser progress in achieving key social outcomes.

The broad contours of the program are convergence (of Central & state schemes), collaboration (of Central, state-level ‘Prabhari’ officers & district collectors) and competition among districts driven by a mass movement.
