Mumbai: Former chief minister of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis found himself in the middle of a controversy after a picture of his 22-year-old nephew taking a vaccine shot went viral on social media.
Tanmay Fadnavis shared a photo of him taking the vaccine jab on social networking site Instagram. This triggered a political storm. Tanmay reportedly received both doses of the vaccine — the first one in Mumbai and the other one at the National Cancer Institute in Nagpur.
Currently, people above 45 years are only eligible to be administered the COVID-19 vaccine under the nationwide immunisation drive.
Youth Congress leader Srivastav hit out at Fadnavis and asked how his 22-year-old nephew received the vaccine as only frontline or healthcare workers, and those over the age of 45 are eligible to receive the jabs.
“Dear @Dev_Fadnavis, is your Nephew Tanmay Fadnavis 45+ years old? If not, how is he eligible for taking the Vaccine? Just like Remdesivir, are you hoarding Vaccines & giving it to your family members? People are dying. There is Vaccine Shortage. But Fadnavis family is Safe,” Srivastav said via a tweet.

Pleading Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray to arrest the 22-year-old, Srivastav enquired to PM Narendra Modi under what law the families of BJP leaders are getting vaccinated against COVID-19 when they are still below 45 years.
“Modiji, under what law is the families of BJP leaders getting Vaccines when they are still below 45 years of age? Tanmay Fadnavis has committed a crime & must be immediately arrested. Fraud Fadnavis has been caught again. People of Maharashtra are seeing what a traitor he is,” another tweet from Srivastav said.
The Central government declared on Monday that all persons above 18 years of age will be eligible for vaccine shots from May 1.
