Parliament Winter Session From Dec 7; 17 Sittings Over 23 Days

New Delhi: The Winter Session of Parliament will be held from December 7 to 29, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi has informed.

The upcoming session will have a total of 17 sittings spread over 23 days, he said.

“Winter Session 2022 of Parliament will commence from 7 December & continue till 29th December having 17 sittings spread over 23 days. Amid Amrit Kaal looking forward to discussions on Legislative Business and other items during the session. Looking forward to constructive debate,” Joshi tweeted.

According to a report by ANI, on the first day of the session, the members are likely to pay respects to sitting members who succumbed. Samajwadi Party patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav was among the leaders whose death had prompted tributes from leaders across political parties.

Also, this will be the first session with the restrictions – to check the spread of coronavirus – removed. Over the last two years, Covid has affected Parliament sessions as much as any other activity in the country.

Notably, this will be the first session during which Vice President Jagdeep Dhankar, the chairman of the Rajya Sabha, will officiate proceedings in the Upper House.

It is pertinent to mention here that during the winter session, Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh will still be gripped with election fever. The polling for assembly elections in Himachal Pradesh took place in a single phase on November 12; while Gujarat will vote in two phases on December 1 and 5. The counting of votes for both states will take place on December 8.

Meanwhile, the civic body polls in Delhi have also been another matter that has pitted the ruling Aam Aadmi Party, the BJP, and the Congress against each other amid a blame game over civic issues.
