Jammu: The Indian Army’s Major General Sameer Srivastava unveiled on Tuesday that more than 50 terrorists are prepared at cross-border terror launching pads to try to infiltrate into Jammu area. The Army, however, is fully aware of this danger and is determined to foil any attempt to infiltrate such elements, he said.
As he spoke to journalists Major General Srivastava stressed that the Army is ready for a clash with the terrorists and will defend ordinary people. He pointed out that two terrorists, who had been taking refuge in a jungle close to a village in the Akhnoor sector of Jammu and Kashmir, were neutralised by security forces on early Tuesday morning. This operation raises the tally of terrorists neutralised during the 27-hour siege close to the LoC to three.
“The challenges remain the same: addressing infiltration threats and dealing with the acts of terrorism. We are ready fully for this, which has been evident in operations we have conducted recently against these terrorists, said Srivastava. “I am confident that such successful operations will impact terrorism negatively.”
Fifty to sixty terrorists at terror camps across the border
Interacting on the number of possible terrorists still in terror camps across the Pir Panjal mountain range at the south, Srivastava clarified that numbers are dynamic. But as per the intelligence reports for both countries, at least 50 to 60 terrorists at present are training in those camps.
As for the operation in Akhnoor where three terrorists were killed Srivastava referred to it as the security force’s major achievement. He was quick to point out that the terrorists met not from a new infiltrating batch, but that they are already in the area. ‘This group was local, and as you have been told we had been monitoring them for quite some time.’ He said, “They emerged from their dens and we were able to counter them”. He also affirmed that the Army will continue vigilance in the Akhnoor sector and ground intelligence confirms that only these three terrorists were in the area.
There is no period of inattention, stricter actions against infiltration
The anti-infiltration grid in the area has been strengthened and there is no record of any infiltration in recent weeks. Terrorists according to Srivastava might still be seen still alive in form of small group that is still moving around the interior parts but there are no camp terrorists in Akhnoor. He stressed, “There shall be no compromise to a preparedness and security measures will not but improve.” Often there has been no infiltration into this region for a long time.
When asked about the recovery of sophisticated M4 carbines from the killed terrorists and suspicions of direct weapons supply by the Pakistani military, Srivastava responded, “There could be many sources providing these weapons, and it is very difficult to speculate.”
Stash of weapons and Ammunition seized
Responding to concerns on the type of clothes that the dead terrorists used, Srivastava said that combat wear is easy to acquire. In the terrorists’ possession, police seized a big cache of weapons and ammunitions as well as IEDs but no belt IEDs. Each of the terrorists had personal weapons and bullets for the guns. Srivastava concluded, “The essence of terrorism is to create a sensation, and I believe they came to Akhnoor to generate sensational headlines.”
