Omicron In India: New Variant Travels To Northeast And Goa

Imphal: The fast-spreading Omicron is not sparing any part of India.

Hours after the first case of the new variant was confirmed in Goa, officials said Omicron has been found in the north-east as well.

A person who returned from Tanzania tested positive for Omicron in Manipur.

“After testing positive for Covid-19… on the eighth day of his arrival in India, the sample of the male passenger, who returned from Tanzania on December 13, was sent for genome sequencing… the report confirmed that he is infected with the Omicron variant,” informed Manipur’s Health services director K Rajo Singh.

The Omicron-positive patient is asymptomatic and being treated in an isolated facility in Imphal.

Manipur reported 17 COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, but has positivity rate of 2.39%.

As for Goa, the first Omicron patient is an eight-year-old boy who returned from the UK last week.
