New Delhi: Having been caught off guard by the second wave of COVID-19 pandemic, the Union government is trying to be pro-active in preventing a third wave in India, triggered by an Omicron surge.
With the country on high alert, considering the rapid increase in cases of the new coronavirus variant, the Central government has identified 10 states reporting a COVID-19 spike and decided to deploy additional surveillance teams.
These high-risk states are — Kerala, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Mizoram, Karnataka, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand and Punjab.
“A decision has been taken to deploy multi-disciplinary central teams to 10 identified states, some of which are either reporting an increasing number of Omicron and Covid-19 cases or slow vaccination pace,” the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare stated.
The total number of Omicron cases identified in India is 415, as of Saturday morning.
