New Delhi: The Central government has granted permission to Odisha Mining Corporation Ltd (OMCL) to use drones for aerial survey of its three mines.
Following the OMCL’s application seeking permission, the Ministry of Civil Aviation on Friday granted conditional permission by exempting provisions under Rule 160 of the Aircraft Rules, 1937.
The mining corporation has been allowed to use fixed wing remotely piloted aircraft system (RPAS) for aerial survey of its mines at Daitari, South Kaliapani and Kodingamali.
The permission follows the ministry’s approval to Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) to use drones on its Delhi-Panipat pipeline. The drones were also allowed to be used to spray pesticides during locust attack.
However, the OMCL has been directed to take all precautionary measures while operating the drones in the mining areas.
