Mumbai: Virat Kohli, after guiding India to the 2024 T20 World Cup, quit T20 internationals because he did not want to block the paths of younger players. But now, the cricketing legend has hinted that he may change his heart—but only if there is a certain change.
Speaking at a recent event arranged by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) to celebrate his association with the franchise for IPL 2025 (announced on 15 March), Kohli also fielded questions on cricket being included in the Olympics. In his humorous response, he stated, “I won’t unretire for the Olympics, but if Team India makes it to the finals and we are playing a gold medal match, I might unretire for that one match.” Gather that medal, prepare your belongings, and depart for home. It would be wonderful to have an Olympic medal.”
This was a light-hearted quip, but as per sources, a T20I return on full capacity remains improbable. However, Kohli, in his role as captain, refrained from making an announcement about the news. The former cricketer also looked back on life after cricket and said that he was not sure what he would do after retirement. I actually have no idea what I will do at that point, and yes, that is terrifying. I asked a teammate recently the same question, and they said the same! I’d travel a lot, perhaps,” he said.
