Bhubaneswar: Taking note of the resentment among people across Odisha over heft fines under the new Motor Vehicle (Amendment) Act, 2019, the Odisha government is likely to revise the penalty provisions at a high-level meeting on Tuesday.
Talking to the media here on Monday, Commerce and Transport minister Padmanabha Behera said the state will use its discretionary powers to ensure some relaxation in hefty penalties.
Admitting that the state government had no rights to revise the Act since it was enacted by the Centre, the Minister said some sections of the Act can be revised. “This will be discussed at a high-level meeting tomorrow,” he said, adding that the people have become more aware of the traffic rules since implementation of the Act.
