Bhubaneswar: Odisha may be bracing up for a wet Christmas this year with rain likely to lash several districts between December 24 and 27 due to movement of western disturbance towards the eastern region, the Centre for Environment and Climate (CEC), SOA Deemed to be University, said in a release on Saturday.
“The movement of western disturbance towards the eastern region would support rainfall in the state with moderate precipitation likely at many places in northern and western Odisha on December 25 and 26,” CEC director Dr Sarat Chandra Sahu said.
The districts likely to experience rainfall on these days are Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Dhenkanal, Angul, Jajpur and Cuttack, he added.
“Probability of heavy rainfall at one or two locations in these districts on December 25 and 26 cannot be ruled out,” he said, adding that districts in south and coastal Odisha might receive light to moderate rainfall on December 26 and 27 while other districts could experience light rainfall between December 25 to 27.
Sahu further said that the minimum night temperature is likely to increase gradually with the change in the north-westerly wind flow from Saturday.
