NSA Doval To Visit Moscow Amid India’s Push For Peace In Russia-Ukraine Conflict

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi continues to advocate for a peaceful resolution to the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, repeatedly emphasising India’s readiness to mediate. In line with this stance, India’s National Security Advisor, Ajit Doval, is set to visit Moscow to engage in discussions aimed at achieving a peaceful end to the war.
Both Russia and Ukraine have, on multiple occasions, acknowledged India’s potential role in facilitating a diplomatic solution to the conflict. Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky recently reiterated this, underlining India’s influence in ending the hostilities. Ajit Doval’s planned trip to Moscow comes as global expectations for India’s involvement in the Russia-Ukraine war continue to grow.

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, speaking on Saturday (7 September 2024) at the Ambrosetti Forum in Cernobbio, northern Italy, expressed hope that countries like India and China could play significant roles in resolving the Ukraine conflict. Meloni, known for her close relationship with Prime Minister Modi, also met with President Zelensky during the event, where she reinforced her belief in India’s diplomatic capabilities.

Russian President Vladimir Putin had, just a day earlier, praised partners such as India for their willingness to mediate and help resolve the conflict. This acknowledgment came as Prime Minister Modi completed a significant visit to Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv, on 23 August 2024 — marking the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Ukraine since its independence in 1991.

Prime Minister Modi’s recent visit to Kyiv was a notable step in India’s diplomatic engagement, further highlighting the country’s commitment to a peaceful resolution in Ukraine. With NSA Ajit Doval’s upcoming trip to Moscow, India appears poised to deepen its involvement in international efforts to end the conflict.

As world leaders and international organisations look towards India’s potential to mediate, Doval’s visit could be pivotal in shaping the future course of dialogue and peace between Russia and Ukraine.
