No Room For Rebels: Candidates Banned By Congress Just Days Before Polls

Mumbai: The political temperatures start to rise ahead of the Maharashtra Assembly polls. All 288 seats will be contested on 20 November and as Congress starts campaigning, the party has suspended some of its members due to factions. Seven candidates were removed on Sunday night by the Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) for their anti-party activities and allied issues and 28 candidates were suspended in all.

The suspended candidates were charged with rebellion in the party lines. Earlier, the MPCC had annoyed 21 anti rebels candidates. That’s why seven new names have been added to the list of suspended members are Shamakant Saner, Rajendra Thakur, Aaba Bagul, Manish Anand, Suresh Kumar Jethlia, Kalyan Borade and Chandrapal Chouksey.

Earlier in the day the MPCC had announced suspension of 21 other rebels making it a total of 28 over 22 constituencies. Family members of those members include: The suspended members are Anandrao Gedam, Shilu Chimurkar, Sonal Kowe, Bharat Yerme, Abhilasha Gawature, Raju Jhodhe, Premsagar Ganveer, Ajay Lanjewar, Vilas Raghunath Patil, Asma Jawwad Chikhlekar, Hanskumar Pandey, Kamal Vyavhare

The Maharashtra elections have the Congress Party in the Mahavikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance. Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee president Ramesh Chennithala and Maharashtra in-charge has stated there would be no’ friendly contests’ during the polls all Congress rebels challenging official MVA nominees have been handed six-year suspensions.

Another Maharashtra battle to be witnessed this year is the fight between Mahavikas Aghadi and Mahayuti. Currently, the MVA alliance only has Congress, Shiv Sena with Uddhav Thackeray as the CM, and the NCP with Sharad Pawar faction. The Mahayuti alliance includes a Shiv Sena with Eknath Shinde taking control as the leader, the BJP, and the NCP with Ajit Pawar as the leader. For all the 288 assembly constituencies the polls will be held in a single phase on November 20 and the counting will be held on November 23.
