No More Fake Threats: India Slaps Heavy Penalties On Hoaxers

NewDelhi: India has introduced measures to tackle bomb threats by implementing a ‘no fly list’, for offenders and imposing significant fines as penalties. Those responsible for issuing threats could be fined up to ₹ 100 thousand (£ 1000) as individuals and organizations may face fines of up, to ₹ 10 million (£ 100000).

The Civil Aviation Ministry has updated the Aircraft (Security ) Regulations of 2023 to include these penalties in response, to an increase in alarm threats this year. These new changes are now, in effect. Are intended to reduce the disturbances and fear caused by occurrences.

On the 9th of December the department released a notice detailing two regulations; Rule 29B gives authority to the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) allowing them to refuse entry, to anyone identified as a security risk; Rule 30B forbids spreading information that may jeopardize the well being and ease of air travelers and airport visitors.

In response, to a series of than a thousand bomb threats, in 2024 that greatly inconvenienced travelers and spurred the ministry to act decisively.

“The ministry official mentioned that the numerous false threats have caused chaos and fear, among travelers ” he stated, “The aim of the updated regulations is to discourage behavior and guarantee the secure functioning of air travel.”
