New Delhi: There has been no import of Ganesh idols made in China into the country this year following the campaign to boycott Chinese goods by the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) in the last two years.
CAIT’s national president B C Bhartia and Secretary General Praveen Khandelwal told IANS that more than 20 crore Ganesh idols are bought in the country every year, generating a business of more than Rs 300 crore.
Following its campaign to boycott Chinese goods, the sale of eco-friendly idols of Lord Ganesh in the country has been growing. These eco-friendly idols are made by local craftsmen, artisans and potters and are easily immersed.
Earlier, Ganesh idols made of Plaster of Paris, stone, marble and other materials in China used to flood the Indian market because of cheap prices.
