Lucknow: Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati declared at a press conference marking her 70th birthday that her party will contest all upcoming elections independently, including the crucial 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls, with no alliances in sight.
Addressing mediapersons at the BSP headquarters, Mayawati asserted that the party had resolved it was “more appropriate” to fight both small and big contests on its own strength. “There should be no confusion about this. The BSP will contest the next Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh alone and form a government with a full majority,” she said firmly.
While ruling out immediate tie-ups, she left a small window open for the future: if a credible partner emerges capable of effectively transferring upper-caste votes to the BSP, the party could reconsider — though she cautioned that such a scenario would take years to develop.
Mayawati exuded confidence, asserting that the people of Uttar Pradesh are once again motivated to restore the BSP to power in 2027.
Recalling the party’s four previous terms in the state, she said workers have been fully mobilised to secure a fifth government.
She took sharp aim at the BJP, Congress, and other parties, vowing a “befitting reply” from the BSP. Expressing concerns over electronic voting machines (EVMs), she alleged manipulation and dishonesty in past polls, noting growing nationwide opposition, yet reaffirmed the party’s resolve to contest vigorously.
The BSP chief also criticised past governments for neglecting founder Kanshi Ram — no national mourning was declared on his death — and accused them of injustice towards Muslims and other communities. She highlighted that no communal riots occurred during BSP rule, with all sections, including Yadavs, receiving fair attention.
As the birthday was observed as ‘Jan Kalyankari Diwas’ across Uttar Pradesh, Mayawati’s announcement signals a clear solo strategy ahead of the high-stakes 2027 battle.
