New Delhi: Indian para-badminton star Nitesh Kumar has secured a silver medal for India at the Paris Paralympics 2024 and now has his eyes set on gold. Nitesh reached the final of the Men’s Singles SL3 category after a commanding victory over Japan’s Daisuke Fujihara in the semi-finals. With this achievement, he has confirmed his first Paralympic medal, adding to India’s growing tally in Paris.
Nitesh Kumar showcased his exceptional form against Daisuke Fujihara, defeating the Japanese player in straight sets. The Indian para-badminton player won the first set 21-16 and continued his dominance in the second set, finishing 21-12. His one-sided victory has now set the stage for an exciting final showdown against Great Britain’s Bethel Daniels.
If Nitesh wins the final, he will become the second Indian athlete to win a gold medal at the Paris Paralympics 2024. The much-anticipated final match is scheduled to take place on September 2 at 3.30 pm Indian Standard Time, with fans eagerly awaiting the outcome.
Nitesh Kumar’s success follows a string of impressive performances by Indian athletes at the Paris Paralympics. Shooter Avani Lekhara secured India’s first medal at the event, winning gold in the Women’s 10m Air Rifle SH1 event. Mona Agarwal complemented her effort by taking home the bronze in the same category.
Preeti Pal then brought India its third medal by clinching bronze in the 100m T35 category, becoming the first Indian athlete to win a medal in a track event at the Paralympics. Shooter Manish Narwal added to the tally with a silver in the Men’s 10m Air Pistol SH1, while Rubina Francis won a bronze in the Women’s 10m Air Pistol SH1 event.
As the fourth day unfolds, India’s medal count stands at five, with Nitesh Kumar’s guaranteed silver potentially turning into gold, adding to the nation’s pride at the Paris Paralympics 2024.
