New Delhi: In a heart-wrenching plea that has gripped social media, Nikita Nagdev, a Pakistani woman, has appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for justice, alleging her Indian husband, Saurabh Kant, is preparing for a second marriage in Delhi while abandoning her and their children.

The 32-year-old’s emotional video, posted on X on Saturday, details a harrowing tale of betrayal, sparking widespread outrage and calls for action.

Nagdev, who married Kant in 2019 after meeting online, moved to Delhi from Lahore under a spousal visa. She claims Kant, a software engineer, began distancing himself after their second child’s birth in 2023, citing financial strain.

Last month, she discovered his plans to wed a colleague, allegedly with his family’s support. “He’s left us penniless, planning a lavish wedding while I beg for my children’s future,” Nagdev said, tearfully urging Modi to intervene.

The video, viewed over 2 million times, prompted responses from Delhi Police, who confirmed a preliminary inquiry is underway. Kant’s family denies the accusations, claiming Nagdev fabricated the story to extend her visa.

Legal experts note that bigamy is punishable under Section 494 of the Indian Penal Code, carrying a seven-year sentence if proven. Women’s rights groups have rallied behind Nagdev, demanding swift action and financial support for her children.

Nagdev’s plea underscores the vulnerabilities of cross-border marriages, with activists emphasising that they require stronger legal protections.
