New Health Policy Soon To Retain Doctors, Fill-Up Vacant Posts In Odisha: Min

Bhubaneswar: A new health policy to check brain drain and tide over doctor scarcity in Odisha is in the offing, said Health and Family Welfare Minister Naba Kishore Das here on Sunday.

“The government will soon formulate a state health policy and set up new medical colleges to produce doctors and fill up the posts lying vacant at various government hospitals,” Das said.

At the same time, care will be taken to check brain drain, he added.

According to reports, plans are afoot for new medical colleges in Talcher, Puri and Sundargarh.

Besides, Das said that the process to appoint a permanent director of Sambalpur-based Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences And Research (VIMSAR) has begun. The post has been lying vacant since Dr Ashwini Pujhari resigned following a controversy. Dr Prakash Chanda Mahapatra, who was assigned temporary charge, retired last month.
