Bhubaneswar: A team of the third battalion of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) located at Mundali in Odisha’s Cuttack, have joined the ongoing operations to rescue Rahul Sahu, an 11-year-old boy who fell into an 80 feet deep abandoned borewell at Pihrid village in Malkharoda block in Chhattisgarh’s Janjgir-Champa district on Friday afternoon.
“The body is responding and ate some food. A JCB is being used to dig a parallel pit to rescue the child,” the NDRF 3rd battalion tweeted on Sunday.
While a dedicated pipe has been installed for supplying oxygen, he is also being supplied with food. A team of doctors has also been deputed and they are constantly monitoring Rahul’s condition through the camera. A robotics team from Gujarat is also expected to reach the spot soon.
According to media reports, the boy fell into the abandoned borewell located in the backyard of his house around 2 pm. The boy’s father Lala Ram Sahu said that the borewell was dug earlier in his vegetable garden in the backyard and when no water was found, it was left unused and uncovered.
Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel has asked officials to take necessary measures to save the child and intensify the rescue operation, a government statement said.
