New Delhi: The newly-appointed United States Ambassador to India, Sergio Gor, said on Monday that the strategic partnership between New Delhi and Washington is set to deepen further, describing the personal chemistry between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump as “real.” He called Modi Trump’s “dear friend” and underlined the mutual trust and respect between the two leaders.

Pax Silica membership push

Gor announced that India will be invited next month to join Pax Silica as a full member, a new US-led global initiative focused on critical technologies and secure supply chains. People view this move as a significant step towards enhancing cooperation in technology, trade, and strategic sectors between the two democracies.

He explained that Pax Silica, launched in the US last month, aims to build a secure, innovation-driven silicon supply chain covering critical minerals, energy inputs, advanced manufacturing, semiconductors, artificial intelligence development and logistics. Countries such as Japan, South Korea, the United Kingdom, and Israel are already part of the group, and India is now poised to join them.

Trade deal talks are on

Gor stated that the long-discussed India-US trade deal is progressing, with both sides determined to conclude the agreement. He added that the next formal round of talks is scheduled for tomorrow, signalling renewed momentum on the economic front.

Praise for India

The ambassador showered praise on India, saying it is a “great experience” to be in the country and that the goal is to take the bilateral partnership to the next level. Recalling his first visit in 2023 to Jaipur, Ranthambore, and Punjab, he said Indians are extremely friendly, and “Incredible India” truly lives up to its name.
