New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi to visit Russia to attend 16th BRICS Summit between October 22-23. The summit, that is being held this year under the auspices of Russia, has invited heads of states and the Prime Minister of India has received the invitation sent by Putin. This summit’s theme for this year can be summarized in words like “Building forward Better Together: Towards Multilateralism for a Post COVID-19 World”.
On Friday, in the statement that was released by the Ministry of External Affairs, it was made clear that apart from the main discourse and discussions of the BRICS summit, Prime Minister Modi was also scheduled to have one on one meetings with other leaders from the member countries of the grouping. These meetings will most probably begin in the city of Kazan where the aforementioned summit is supposed to be held.
The emphasis with refer to Global Problems and B2B Communication
The upcoming BRICS Summit in 2024 will provide a great opportunity for the leaders to present major priorities of international relations and prospects of cooperation. The Ministry of External Affairs noted that the summit would afford the chance to recall the experiences of many projects initiated within the framework of the BRICS and consider the further development of cooperation in various fields. All the heads of state of BRICS countries are likely to participate and therefore the summit is of strategic significance among world leaders.
Besides the BRICS sessions, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with other heads of states and governments going to attend the Kazan meeting. For instance, the Prime Minister is expected to sit with Russian President Vladimir Putin and the discussion will proceed from the time the duo met in July 2024. However, a possibility to come across face to face between PM Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping is very much sure to happen during the meet. This will be the first time both leaders will meet since the Galwan Valley incident in 2020, which raised the possibility of deescalation in the tensions between India and China.
Deliberations for this ‘summit possibility’ were made during prior meetings that indias External affairs minister S Jaishankar national security advisor Ajit Doval had with the Chinese foreign minister Wang Yi.
A BRICS Summit With the Threats As A Critical Summit
The Summit of the BRICS countries this year is more important because of the enlargement of the BRICS group. Since the formation of the organisation, five new members Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran and Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates have been admitted, which has boosted the morale of the organisation. BRICS attracted greater than 50 nations, indicating an interest in membership in the organisation; the BRICS accounts for 45% of world’s population and has a contribution of 28% in world GDP.
As the host nation, Russia has been a strong proponent for the establishment of a BRICS currency to start to break what some feel is the excessive reliance on the US dollar in foreign transactions. The summit may deliberate over this possible fora in view of rising demand for redressal of what is perceived to be dominance of the US economy.
Effects of War or Conflicts
The importance of this BRICS Summit can be also attributed to the current global conflicting situations such as Russia- Ukraine war or the novel tension between Israel and the Middle East countries. The results of the summit are expected to effect international policies concerning and other such issues in the future. There will be doubts both regarding the outcomes of these fights, and more comprehensive issues connected with stability of the world and cooperation in the sphere of economics.
Modi’s upcoming trip to Russia for the 16 th BRICS Summit is one of a new era of foreign diplomacy. With votes in bilateral sessions expected and discussions about currency, multilateralism and development, the Summit could be defining the world’s relations in the years to come.
