Kazan: At the BRICS Summit in Kazan, PM Narendra Modi made a stealthy call to the whole world on terrorism, it can be taken as a direct slap to Pakistan for promoting terrorism. Speaking alongside Putin and during a joint press conference with Xi, Modi said that there can be no ‘two standards’ in the fight against terrorism.
Although the Prime Minister did not directly name pakistan, his statements left no doubt that it was this particular neighbor of india he was referring to, india has often accused pakistan of providing terrorists safe haven and support. The symbolism was particularly pronounced as Modi spoke about the threat of terrorism when seated next to Xi Jinping, the head of state of the country that has regularly voted against UN resolutions to blacklist Pakistani militants.
Modi’s Stand: There should be no Room for Hypocrisy on Terrorism
Addressing the assembled leaders of the BRICS countries, including President Xi of China and President Putin of Russia, Modi reaffirmed India’s position on terrorism, that there should be no confusion about the issue. “The fight against terrorism and radicalism should have no stereotypes and second-half,” the Prime Minister said respond. He also drew more attention to global counterterrorism financing and urged the international communities to collectively enhance the cooperation in this regard.
Speaking at the present press conference, Modi emphasized that everyone should united against terrorism and the problem cannot be solved inconsistently. The threats of terrorism and its financing require united and strong support. On this matter there can be no compromise as he directly hinted at states that have hindered the fight against terrorism in international arena.
Now Xi Jinping remains silent as Modi speaks
More astonishing about Modi’s comments was that during his speeches, China’s president Xi Jinping was present and, unlike Modi, did not utter a single word about terrorism. China specifically has been using its veto power in the UN to twist the arm against attempts to label Pakistani terrorists. In such an interaction, some of the things that Modi said in the presence of Xi can be said to have provided a clear message on behalf of India’s clearly defined stand against terrorism irrespective of the diplomatic implications that come with siding with Pakistan’s nemesis.
They don’t say Pakistan but Pakistan is in the crosshairs all the same
While Prime Minister Modi did not mention Pakistan by name, he did not have to say its name for everyone to know to whom he was referring. SRelation to Pakistan, India and China have had conflicts and disagreements, particularly, when it comes to countering terrorism. Earlier, China has cracked UN sanctions against Pak-based terrorists, which are not well received by India either.
Modi’s terse message at the BRICS Summit was also a note that India is uncompromising about combating terrorism and will not engage in diplomatic gymnastics on the issue. The PM also repeated that India’s doors for dialogue with Pakistan are not closed but at the same time also clarified that such dialogue in possible only when the environment is not threatening.
Lest we get impressed with Modi’s advocacy of dialogue as the way forward, let us remind ourselves he was insistent on this, only if it is free from terrorism.
There was also another event at the particular summit that was convened by Modi, during his delivering of speech, he called for peace instead of war. “If every country of the world wants war, India wants dialogue and diplomacy,” he said, holding a hand of friendly countries that are not into the act of destructive war. But he was clear, if the nation wants to talk about anything with Pakistan, then the latter must stop fundraising for terrorism.
Modi’s position was that while India is always ready to negotiate on the table, it will not be ready to negotiate with Pakistan until that country stops terrorist attacks. “India’s position has always been clear: In the words of Modi there can be no dialogue without terrorism, The demand of troops in Afghanistan is a firm concern where the voter’s votes are being wasted without any sign of hope Mainstream English Newspape.
Sending a Viable Signal to Pakistan at BRICS
Mr Modi’s utterances during the BRICS Summit can also be considered to be a blunt warning to Pakistan. The Prime Minister underlined that peace and diplomacy clearly are within the realm of possibility, but only if terrorism is not involved. His words indicate that although India has not closed its doors to negotiations, it will never give the issue of security and terrorism.
Foreign policy issues that have come under discussion at the Summit include war on terror, Putins remarks Unilateralism and Multilateralism of China This shows that India is ready to counter any country that poses a hurdle to any moves to address terrorism. With Putin and Xi Jinping by his side, Modi’s firm stance sent a direct message to Pakistan: Diahogue cannot and will not be achieved through terrorism, and the fight against it must be joint for the international community.
