Warsaw, Poland: On Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk to discuss enhancing bilateral relations, marking a significant moment in Indo-Polish diplomacy. This visit, the first by an Indian Prime Minister to Poland in 45 years, holds a special place in the history of both nations, as this year also commemorates the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between India and Poland.
During the meeting, PM Modi expressed his gratitude for the warm reception, highlighting the importance of the relationship between the two countries. “Today holds special significance for India and Poland. Relations between our nations are improving, and we have decided to convert these into a strategic partnership,” Modi stated.
The discussion also touched upon Poland’s pivotal role in supporting India during the Ukraine crisis in 2022. Modi praised Poland for its generosity during the evacuation of Indian nationals stranded in Ukraine, a gesture India will not soon forget. Additionally, he acknowledged Poland’s leadership in the food processing industry, inviting Polish companies to participate in India’s “Make in India” and “Make for World” initiatives.
Modi emphasised the necessity of reforms in international institutions like the United Nations, a sentiment shared by both leaders as they continue to cooperate closely in global forums. The conversation also covered the pressing global conflicts, with PM Modi expressing deep concern over the ongoing wars in Ukraine and West Asia. He reiterated India’s stance that no issue can be resolved on the battlefield and called for dialogue and diplomacy to restore peace and stability.
The visit is part of PM Modi’s two-nation tour, with Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv, being his next stop. Prior to their discussions, Modi was officially welcomed at the Chancellery and later met with Polish President Andrzej Sebastian Duda.
The talks between Modi and Tusk reflect a mutual commitment to strengthening ties and working collaboratively on global challenges, underscoring the deepening relationship between India and Poland.
