Ranchi: In a significant pre-election crackdown, the Income Tax Department has launched extensive raids across Jharkhand, targeting the residences of key political figures including Sunil Srivastava, a personal advisor to Chief Minister Hemant Soren. Raids are currently underway in multiple locations, with reports confirming searches in seven locations in Ranchi and various addresses in Jamshedpur.
This action comes in the wake of several probes into alleged corruption especially on the Jal Jeevan Mission. On October 14, The Enforcement Directorate (ED) also conducted raids in connexion with this mission with regard to state cabinet minister Mithilesh Thakur’s brother Vinay Thakur and engineers such as.
Sunil Srivastava who is working as the private secretary to the Chief Minister Soren IS under the radar now, as the IT Department teams are raiding his house in Ashok Nagar, Ranchi and other places owned by other persons.
These raids have therefore raised eyebrows especially bearing in mind that Jharkhand’s assembly polls will start in the next few days. The elections will be held in two phases and for the 81 constituencies in the state and for 43 constituencies the vote will be held on November 13 and for rest 38 seats the vote will be held on November 20. As such, the results are expected to be posted on November 23.
Earlier, ED had conducted raids at over 20 places in Ranchi including the residence of a leading businessman on Ratu Road linked with Jal Jeevan Mission that provides tap water connexion to every household by February 2024.
Jal Jeevan Mission was launched by the central government in the year 2019 with the vision to provide tap water connexion to every household. The incumbent Hemant Soren government has targets of providing tap water connexions to 3.4 million households by end 2022-23. According to reports, around twenty percent of homes in Jharkhand have got water connexions till February 2024.
These offered reforms indicate that there are political instabilities that tend to be witnessed as the election date in Jharkhand gets nearer for all parties concerned.
