Rawalpindi: Security concerns have gripped Pakistan after fourteen prisoners made a daring escape from a police van while returning to the high security Adiala Jail. This central prison, known for housing high profile inmates including former Prime Minister Imran Khan, is now at the centre of a massive controversy regarding law enforcement loopholes.

The incident occurred while the undertrials were being transported back to the jail after completing their court hearings. According to media reports, the prisoners executed a planned escape when the transport van was stopped for a routine check. Taking advantage of the situation, the inmates threw chili powder into the eyes of the police officials escorting them and managed to flee the scene.

The brazen daylight escape immediately triggered a state of high alert across the region. Jail authorities, local police, and various security agencies launched an extensive search operation to track down the fugitives. Heavy police forces were immediately deployed, and blockades were set up across the surrounding areas.

Following an intense initial manhunt, law enforcement agencies successfully recaptured four of the escaped prisoners. However, the search for the remaining ten fugitives is still underway as authorities conduct continuous raids across multiple locations.

Adiala Central Jail, officially known as Rawalpindi District Jail, is considered one of the most secure correctional facilities in Pakistan. It is currently under intense public and media scrutiny because former Prime Minister Imran Khan is lodged there in connection with multiple corruption cases. Due to his presence, the facility already operates under an escalated security protocol with tight surveillance both inside and outside the premises.

The successful escape from a police van bound for such a highly fortified prison has raised serious questions about the operational protocols of the local police. Investigators are currently conducting a preliminary probe to determine if the daring escape involved any negligence or internal collusion from jail or police staff. Authorities are assuring the public that the remaining ten escapees will be apprehended soon and strict action will be taken against any officials found guilty of dereliction of duty.
