Imphal: The unrest in Manipur shows no sign of abating as BJP leader Michael Lamjathang’s family home has come under attack once again. Unknown assailants targeted the residence in Penial village, Churachandpur district, setting fire to the house and a car parked nearby. This marks the third arson attack on Lamjathang’s family in recent days.
According to police reports, more than 20 individuals were involved in the incident. The attack, which also saw the home of Lamjathang’s parents vandalised, has raised concerns over the escalating violence in the region.
Chief Minister N. Biren Singh took to social media platform X to express his condemnation of the attack, stating: “This is the third arson attack on the home of Michael Lamjathang’s parents today. I strongly condemn this incident. Repeated targeting of our people under the garb of peace rallies is a disturbing trend. Such acts of provocation will not be tolerated.”
The Chief Minister further assured that those responsible for the attack would be brought to justice. He also called for action against officials who failed to provide adequate security, despite prior warnings of potential threats.
This is not the first time Lamjathang has been targeted. Last week, his home in Churachandpur district was attacked by over 30 armed individuals who fired multiple rounds and set fire to parts of the property. The attack occurred shortly after Lamjathang participated in a televised debate on the controversial issue of Kuki supremacy.
The repeated assaults on Lamjathang’s residence highlight the ongoing tensions in Manipur, where violence has erupted periodically despite efforts to restore peace. The situation remains volatile, with authorities urging calm while intensifying security measures in the affected areas.
