Vivek Sharma, a resident of Morena district in Madhya Pradesh, was working as a stone sculptor near Palampur city.
Vivek is known to be a devotee of Goddess Kali and had been desperate to return to his native village.
On Saturday, Vivek had gone out saying that he was going to the local market. When he didn’t return for a long time, his brother called him. Someone else answered the phone and said that Vivek had cut off his tongue at the Nadeshwari temple.
While some witnesses claimed that the man had cut off his tongue in a fit of rage, others suggested he believed it would help stop the spread of coronavirus.
