Kolkata: Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday extended an invitation to the agitating junior doctors for a meeting at the state secretariat, Nabanna, in an attempt to resolve the ongoing stalemate over the RG Kar Medical College incident. The West Bengal government has sent an urgent email to the junior doctors, asking them to come to Nabanna, stating, “If possible, come today; CM Mamata Banerjee is waiting.”
The email, sent by the state’s official secretariat, was intended to break the deadlock with the doctors who have been protesting against the state government’s handling of the RG Kar Medical College case. However, the email has sparked further outrage among the junior doctors, who have termed it “objectionable.”
Doctors Stand Firm Amid Tensions
Despite the call for talks, the protesting doctors have refused to attend any meeting, citing dissatisfaction with the tone and language of the email from the Health Department. In response, they have vowed to continue their protest, announcing a complete dharna outside Swasthya Bhawan, the state health department’s headquarters, on Tuesday night.
During a cabinet meeting, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee instructed all ministers to refrain from commenting on the doctors’ agitation. She emphasised that only she would make any statements regarding the matter.
Standoff Continues as Protest Escalates
The junior doctors have reiterated their demand for a more respectful dialogue, expressing their frustration over the state government’s approach. As the protest enters a critical phase, the doctors remain firm in their decision to continue their sit-in outside Swasthya Bhawan, indicating no immediate resolution in sight.
The stalemate over the RG Kar Medical College case has drawn significant public attention, and the junior doctors’ demands for justice and accountability continue to resonate across West Bengal.
