Mamata Banerjee Blocks Governor Jagdeep Dhankar On Twitter; Know Why

Kolkata: Acrimonious ties between Trtinamool Congress (TMC)-led West Bengal government and Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar touched a new low on Monday.

Hours after TMC requested President Ram Nath Kovind to remove Dhankhar from the state, chief minister Mamata Banerjee said she had blocked the Governor on Twitter as she was disturbed by his posts on the microblogging site.

“I have been forced to block governor Jagdeep Dhankhar on Twitter. Everyday he has been issuing tweets targeting and threatening government officials as if we’re his bonded labourers,” Mamata said at a press conference.

The CM further alleged that phones are being randomly tapped and claimed that “Pegasus is being done from Raj Bhavan.”

Dhankhar has been at loggerheads with the West Bengal government ever since he was appointed Governor in 2019.

The CM as well as several state ministers and Dhankhar have traded charges against each other time and again. While the Governor has complained about a lack of law and order in the state, the ruling party claims that Dhankhar often crosses his jurisdiction and acts on behalf of BJP.

On Sunday, Dhankhar said: “Democracy survives on rule of law, not the rule of an individual. I hope she (West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee) looks into it. She is mandated by the Constitution to sit for a dialogue with the governor.”

Despite having written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking removal of Dhankhar, Mamata said no action has been taken so far.
