Patna: A massive ruckus erupted in Bihar’s capital on Sunday during a commemorative event, as Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge found himself at the centre of a fresh political controversy. The veteran leader made a contentious remark against Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his public address, which subsequently triggered a physical altercation between party workers and an attendee in the audience.

The chaotic incident unfolded in Patna during the 139th birth anniversary celebration of Dr. Shri Krishna Singh, the first Chief Minister of Bihar. While Kharge was delivering his speech from the stage, sharply criticizing the central government and the Prime Minister’s policies, a young man present in the crowd interrupted the proceedings. According to reports, the individual strongly objected to the Congress chief’s comments, shouting in defense of the Prime Minister and asserting that PM Modi was not going anywhere.

Reacting to the sudden interruption, Kharge lost his temper and delivered a highly controversial retort over the microphone. News agency ANI reported that Kharge responded to the heckler by stating, “Modi ka baap bhi jayega” (Even Modi’s father will have to go).

Immediately following this heated exchange, the situation at the venue escalated rapidly into violence. Enraged Congress workers present at the gathering grabbed the dissenting youth who had raised the objection and brutally assaulted him. The scuffle caused significant panic and disruption at the memorial event.

This recent episode adds to a growing list of fierce verbal clashes between the Congress President and the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The latest report recalls a previous incident from April 2026, during the Tamil Nadu Assembly election campaign, where Kharge sparked a massive political storm by allegedly referring to PM Modi as a “terrorist.” Following that specific remark, the BJP had lodged a formal complaint with the Election Commission and vehemently demanded a public apology, which the Congress leader flatly refused to issue.

The physical assault on the attendee in Patna has drawn sharp criticism across political circles, raising serious questions about the conduct of political workers and the safety of dissenting voices at public gatherings. Authorities have yet to release an official statement regarding the medical condition of the assaulted man or any potential police action against those involved in the brawl.
