Nandigram: Heating up the political battleground ahead of the Nandigram assembly bypolls, West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari launched a scathing attack on the Trinamool Congress (TMC), asserting that the “main thief will also go to jail.”

Addressing a massive public gathering at Birulia market in support of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Hasi Rani Rath, Adhikari spoke to a large crowd that included party workers and members of the local minority community.

Explaining his recent decision to vacate the Nandigram assembly seat despite securing a victory, the Chief Minister said, “I had contested from both Nandigram and Bhabanipur. If I wanted, I could have resigned from Bhabanipur, but if I had done so, the ‘honourable madam’ would have tried to contest again. That is why I resigned from Nandigram.” He assured local residents that his MLA office would remain fully operational and promised to work for the constituency even more actively than before.

Making a significant outreach to minority voters, Adhikari urged them to build a bridge of trust with the BJP. “Do not turn away from us. You have this opportunity to be friends. No one will force you to say ‘Jai Shri Ram’. Keep your grievances aside, vote together, and let us work in harmony,” he appealed.

Focusing on governance and youth empowerment, the Chief Minister announced that one lakh new employment opportunities would be generated in the state within a year. He further noted that appointment letters for newly recruited police personnel would be distributed on October 11, intentionally choosing a date after the conclusion of the Pitru Paksha period.

In a major political revelation, Adhikari raised questions about Mamata Banerjee’s widely publicised leg injury. Noting his position as the chairman of the PG Hospital’s patient welfare committee, he stated, “Didi’s leg was supposedly broken in this very Birulia market. I still have the report. The doctor wrote ‘no fracture’. If challenged, I can produce the documents.”

Mocking the current state of the state’s opposition, Adhikari likened the TMC to the “headlight of a bullock cart” and dismissed the Congress and CPI(M) as mere political “signboards” with no real footprint left.

Before concluding his address, the Chief Minister touched upon the sensitive issue of Chandranath’s murder. Confirming that the perpetrators had been arrested, he alleged that the financial backers of the killing belong to the “Bhaipo (nephew) company of Diamond Harbour.”
