Love And Lament: A Forbidden Romance Turns Deadly

Lucknow: Inspired by Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, a moving love story developed in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, where a young couple finally made the terrible decision to take their lives together despite constant family attempts to keep them apart. Because of their love, the young man had even been imprisoned; yet, once his bail was obtained, the couple chose a sad ending that has left both families in deep loss.

The horrific episode happened in Husainpur village close to Nanauta. Around three PM on a Tuesday afternoon, a local farmer called Kala, who was tending to a sugarcane field owned by Ankit, the son of Shyam, stumbled upon the dead remains of a young man and lady in an alarming state. A package containing the deadly poison Sulfas was found nearby.

Both of the dead, 20-year-old Neelam, daughter of Lokesh, and 26-year-old Vinay, son of Ratna Singh, were Husainpur locals. Authorities were quickly informed, and forensic experts arrived to painstakingly investigate the scene and find an empty poison packet along with cell phones. Following the required protocols, the police moved the bodies for post-mortem investigation.

Preliminary enquiries, according to Station House Officer (SHO) Sachin Poonia, show the pair killed themselves by poison intake. According to reports, Vinay and Neelam belonged to the same extended family and developed a romantic relationship.

Two years before, Vinay had apparently eloped with Neelam, which led to a court lawsuit her family filed at the Rampur Maniharan police station. Only a few days ago, he was released on bond following his arrest and then jail. The pair had apparently disappeared after his release, and their terrible destiny has finally surfaced.
