Mumbai: The Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) now holds a Guinness World Record for issuing the most life insurance policies in one day. On January 20, 2025, agents from LIC sold a whopping 588,107 policies all over India. Thanks to this result, the industry has set an international productivity record.
The successful record was part of a wider campaign called “Mad Million Day,” organized by Siddhartha Mohanty, LIC’s Chairman and Managing Director. Mohanty asked each agent to sell at least one policy on the given day, and this task was enthusiastically accepted. Credit for this achievement belongs to our agents’ persistent dedication to work and special skills, Mohanty added. We thank our customers, agents, and employees for making this day a milestone.
LIC, India’s biggest life insurer, pointed out that the campaign underlines its goal of securing millions of families’ finances. The marketing effort spotlighted the wide coverage and excellent work of the company’s agency partners. It reaffirmed its position as a respected institution in India’s financial field. On May 24, 2025, LIC’s record-breaking performance garnered strong praise for its exceptional management.
This achievement is unlike anything before seen, with agents issuing an average of 1.3 policies in just 24 hours. The organization was successful thanks to careful preparation and swift action by all its staff. Guinness World Records’ recognition positions LIC globally and establishes an industry benchmark.
Industry experts have praised the success as proof of LIC’s strong legacy and its ability to adjust to new challenges without changing its main values. “We know from experience that Indians trust LIC, which is more significant than its numbers,” said the analyst. Now, LIC is succeeding after posting a 9.91% increase in its business premiums last month, more than the industry’s average of 8.43%.
As LIC marks this anniversary, it aims to widen its presence and improve financial inclusion throughout India. Hopefully, the positive results of “Mad Million Day” will push the company to make an even bigger and positive difference for its policyholders. Currently, being listed in Guinness World Records is a big step forward for LIC and the insurance business in India.
