New Delhi: The Delhi Police have arrested Lalit Jha, an accused in the Parliament blast case. On Friday, the police produced him before the court, which remanded him to seven-day police custody.
According to the police, Jha wanted to create anarchy in the country and force the government to meet his unjust and illegal demands.
He destroyed his and his associates’ phones to hide their activities and the larger conspiracy behind the blast.
Jha revealed that he and his accomplices had met several times to plan the attack. The Special Cell of the Delhi Police is investigating whether the accused had any links with any enemy country or terrorist organisation.
The police told the Patiala House Court that Jha orchestrated the entire attack by holding Sagar responsible. Manoranjan, Neelam, and Amol played various roles in the conspiracy, and the police need to take Jha to different cities and places for further investigation.
After the arrest of his associates on Wednesday, Jha fled to Rajasthan. He made a video of Neelam Azad and Amol Shinde protesting outside Parliament and then fled to Nagaur in Rajasthan, where he spent the night at a hotel.
Upon learning that the police were searching for him, Jha returned to Delhi and surrendered. The police arrested him and began questioning him.
The conspiracy began one-and-a-half years ago when Jha, a private tutor, met with his associates in Mysuru. At his behest, Manoranjan conducted a reconnaissance of the old Parliament building in July.
They discovered that shoes were not being checked for security, so they decided to hide the smoke bomb inside a shoe. To accommodate the smoke bomb, they had two pairs of shoes specially made in Lucknow, which Amol purchased.
The Delhi Police are investigating whether Jha and his accomplices had any links to any enemy country or terrorist organization. They are also trying to recover Jha’s mobile phone to ascertain the main motive behind the incident.
