Lalduhoma Takes Oath as Mizoram’s New Chief Minister, Ushering in a New Era for the State

Aizawl: ZPM leader Lalduhoma has officially been sworn in as the new Chief Minister of Mizoram, marking the beginning of a new chapter for the state. Governor Haribabu Kambhampati administered the oath of office and secrecy to Lalduhoma during a ceremony held at the Assembly building due to adverse weather conditions. Other ministers in the new government are also expected to take oaths shortly.

This development comes after the ZPM’s resounding victory in the recent assembly elections held on November 7th. The party secured a decisive majority by winning 27 out of 40 seats, ending the reign of the incumbent Mizo National Front (MNF), which was reduced to a mere 10 seats. The BJP and Congress could only manage 2 and 1, respectively.

Prior to the swearing-in ceremony, ZPM legislators unanimously elected Lalduhoma as their leader and K. Sapdanga as the deputy leader, solidifying their confidence in his leadership.

Lalduhoma brings a wealth of experience to the office of Chief Minister. A retired Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, he served as a security detail for former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. He also has a noteworthy political past, having won the Lok Sabha election in 1984 on a Congress ticket. However, disagreements with the party led to his disqualification under the anti-defection law, making him the first MP to face such a consequence. Despite this setback, Lalduhoma demonstrated resilience by winning the Aizawl West seat as an independent candidate in the 2018 elections.

With Lalduhoma at the helm, Mizoram embarks on a new journey with high hopes for progress and development. His diverse background and proven leadership qualities offer a promising outlook for the state’s future.
