Kyiv: A major government building in central Kyiv was engulfed in flames following a Russian missile and drone attack early Saturday morning, marking yet another escalation in the ongoing conflict.
The strike, which targeted administrative infrastructure, left at least three people dead and injured 18 others, according to Ukrainian officials.
The attack occurred in the heart of the capital, where multiple explosions were reported across the districts of Krementschuk, Kryvyi Rih and Odesa. Ukrainian emergency services rushed to the scene, battling fires and evacuating civilians from nearby residential areas.
Authorities confirmed that the building housed key ministries and administrative offices. The fire, which broke out after the missile impact, caused extensive damage to the structure and surrounding facilities. Ukrainian air defence systems intercepted several drones, but some managed to breach the city’s perimeter.
Russian forces reportedly launched the assault using a combination of drones and missiles, with the intent to cripple Ukraine’s administrative command.
The strike comes amid rising tensions and repeated warnings from Western allies about Russia’s intensified military posture.
In a statement, the Ukrainian military condemned the attack as a deliberate attempt to destabilise governance and instil fear among civilians.
Meanwhile, international observers have expressed concern over the growing frequency of such strikes on civilian infrastructure.
Poland’s Foreign Ministry has also weighed in, urging Russia to cease targeting non-combat zones and calling for renewed diplomatic efforts to de-escalate the situation.
As Kyiv reels from the latest assault, the broader geopolitical implications continue to unfold, with Ukraine bracing for further aggression and the global community watching closely.
