Their 31-year-old daughter, a doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, had been brutally raped and murdered during a long night shift. The parents, unaware of the impending tragedy, had spoken to their daughter on the phone the previous evening, in what would be their last conversation.
The chilling details of these final moments have emerged through audio recordings broadcast by local TV channels, capturing the anguished voices of the parents. The recordings reveal the shock and disbelief of the elderly couple as they rushed to the hospital, only to discover their daughter’s body in a horrific state. According to the father, “Only I know what I went through when I saw her. There were no clothes on her body. She was wrapped in only one sheet. Her legs were in a different position, and one of her hands was on her head.”
The case has sparked a wave of protests and intense scrutiny from the Calcutta High Court and the Supreme Court. The parents have filed a petition alleging that they were deliberately made to wait for three hours upon arrival at the hospital.
