New Delhi: Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have had an underwhelming performance this season. After facing an agonising defeat at home against Lucknow Super Giants by just four runs, Kolkata were devastated, but their owner, Shah Rukh Khan, sent out a special message of comfort for his players’ morale and kept faith with their cause.
After their defeat against Lucknow, Shah Rukh Khan sent a letter into the dressing room where team manager Venkatesh Mysore read it out loud for all players to hear and review his message of strength to stay strong and learn from loss. According to Khan himself, this loss may have been tough due to how close we came; nonetheless, we can draw some positives from it: fighting hard while showing that big scores could still be chased; sometimes our best effort simply wasn’t enough, and today was just such an occasion.
SRK reminded his team, “We were just one ball away” and encouraged them to put this defeat behind them and move forward together as one unit. His final words included this quote from him: If handled carefully, such heartbreaks may bring even closer-knit groups.
KKR had every chance to beat Lucknow. Rahane and Venkatesh Iyer offered hope when their partnerships gave the team hope, but after suffering five quick wickets during an extraordinary collapse, defeat was eventually inevitable for KKR, who now take on Chennai Super Kings on April 11 at Chepauk Stadium.
