Thiruvananthapuram: A viral video from the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) headquarters has triggered a major political controversy after senior Congress leader Cherian Philip was seen attempting to hug newly-elected MLA Bindu Krishna during a party meeting, despite her visible discomfort.

The incident reportedly took place during a Congress legislative party gathering in Thiruvananthapuram attended by party workers, senior leaders and journalists. In the now widely-circulated clip, Bindu Krishna is seen arriving at the venue and greeting people near the entrance before interacting with leaders inside the office premises.

As she appeared to extend her hand for a formal greeting, Cherian Philip moved forward to hug her. The MLA looked uncomfortable and was seen pushing his hand away while trying to step back. The video further shows her folding her hands and walking away after what social media users claimed was another attempt by the senior leader to approach her.

The footage spread rapidly across social media platforms, drawing sharp reactions from users and political observers alike. Several people criticised the gesture as “inappropriate” and questioned why the MLA’s discomfort appeared to be ignored in a public setting.

So far, neither Cherian Philip nor Bindu Krishna has issued an official statement on the controversy. However, the episode has once again ignited a larger conversation around personal boundaries and conduct in political spaces.
