A dramatic courtroom moment involving former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has triggered fresh headlines after the Delhi High Court ordered the removal of viral videos showing him arguing passionately in the sensitive Excise Policy case.

On April 13, Kejriwal appeared in person before Justice Swarnkanta Sharma and spent over an hour pressing his application seeking her recusal from the case. He raised serious concerns about “reasonable apprehension of bias,” claiming in a follow-up affidavit that the judge’s children were working under the protection of Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, who also represents the CBI in the liquor scam matter.

The clip, recorded during the online hearing, spread rapidly on social media, drawing massive attention.

The Delhi High Court, however, took strong exception to the unauthorised recording and circulation. On Wednesday, it directed Delhi Police to immediately remove all such videos from social media platforms and initiate legal action against those responsible for recording and sharing them without permission. Court officials made it clear that rules for online hearings strictly prohibit any recording or publication of proceedings to protect judicial dignity and decorum.

This is not the first time unauthorised courtroom videos have created ripples, but the swift order in such a high-profile case has once again put the spotlight on the thin line between public interest and court protocol. Kejriwal’s team had argued that past decisions in related matters showed a tilt, while the Solicitor General opposed the recusal plea.
