Bengaluru: The move by the Congress-led government in Karnataka to reserve 4 percent for Muslim contractors in tenders issued by the state has drawn flak from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). BJP’s senior leader Ravi Shankar Prasad blamed Congress for the “communal politics” and “petty vote-bank politics.” The Congress has demonstrated its true intentions by allocating 4% of its budget to Muslims, he stated. The communalisation of government contracts extends beyond just job quotas.
Prasad also accused Congress of being “firmly stuck into Muslim appeasement.” Reservations in government contracts, he said, “set a dangerous precedent. Amidst all the countrymen celebrating Holi riots free, the Congress is disturbing politics for votes,” wrote Modi. He also connected the decision with the leader of the opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, stating, “This policy is in sync with the agenda of competitive communal politics of Rahul Gandhi.” Funny enough, he spends more time in Vietnam than in what is not his constituency.”

The BJP leader also raised questions over its impact in the future and said, “Where does this appeasement lead to? Next will be separate queues for Muslims in cinemas? He referred to the contentious “Muslims have first claim on resources” remark made by ex-PM Manmohan Singh, saying, “Rahul Gandhi has gone even beyond that mindset. Divisive politics must persist even after Jinnah’s departure.

Prasad also attacked Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi on his recent visit to Vietnam, saying, “Rahul Gandhi has spent 22 days there but does not visit his constituency.” He also used images of women dressed in burqas playing Holi in Varanasi to make a “culturally concerning pivot.”
