Kolkata: The Trinamool Congress (TMC) is seeing some serious infighting, with senior leaders Kalyan Banerjee and Mahua Moitra really going at each other.
Things got heated when Banerjee accused Moitra of being ungrateful. He even shared an old video of himself defending her in Parliament and said she should apologise to the country for supporting someone who now calls him a misogynist.
Banerjee posted on X, I defended Mahua Moitra because I believed in it, not because I had to. Now she calls me a misogynist. I owe the country an apology for defending someone who can’t even be grateful. Now, it’s up to the people to decide. He also included a video of his 2023 speech in Parliament where he defended her.
The event happened right after Banerjee quit as TMC’s Chief Whip in the Lok Sabha. He said it was because party leader Mamata Banerjee was worried about the lack of teamwork among the party’s MPs. “If things are a mess, it’s my fault. That’s why I quit,” Banerjee said.
Mahua Moitra Fires Back
Moitra responded by congratulating Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar on becoming the new Chief Whip, which many saw as a direct jab at Banerjee.
How Did This Start?
The fight started after a podcast interview where Moitra said, “You don’t fight with a pig because they enjoy it, and you just get dirty. There are some men like that in Parliament. They’re misogynistic, sexually frustrated, and have dirty minds.” Her words caused a stir in politics and on social media.
Banerjee didn’t hold back, calling her language rude and awful. Calling another MP a ‘pig’ is just not right. Calling any man ‘sexually frustrated’ isn’t feminism; it’s an insult. If someone said that about a woman, there would be outrage, he said. Banerjee said Moitra was just using misogyny as a way to dodge criticism.
Getting personal, Banerjee brought up Moitra’s recent marriage, saying, ‘She calls me a misogynist? What about what she’s done? She married a 65-year-old man and broke up a family.
This incident isn’t the first time Banerjee has been in trouble. He once made controversial remarks about a college rape case, asking, “If friends rape friends, should we put police in every school?
Moitra responded at that time, stating, “Misogyny is present in every party in India.” But TMC is different because we openly call out those kinds of comments.
