Perth: Returning to the field as the stand-in captain for the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy’s first Test in Perth’s Optus Stadium, the focus now turns to KL Rahul. Rahul is expected to step up as an opener since Rohit Sharma shines doubtful for the initial clash. This series has an enormous importance for Rahul as he has been struggling with issues like form and consistency and the problem of selection in the team.
In these conditions, there was important advice for Rahul in Indian ex-captain and the head of the BCCI – Sourav Ganguly. Ganguly also thinks that any player can go through low-scoring period in sport and focused on Rahul to try and introspect to find his form back. When asked about it by Revsportz, Ganguly said to him, “He must learn to speak to himself, set aside the failures of the past, and know that self-confidence can fluctuate”. Hence, it is equally important to actively invest efforts in the nets with a view of regaining one’s self assurance.
Ganguly also talked about the recent events in Rahul’s career; he is now released by Lucknow Super Giants, Ahead of the next IPL season, there is added pressure. Nonetheless, Ganguly still feels that Rahul will land a place in a good IPL team in the near future and will replicate what he does for his franchise in Indian cricket.
To overcome this difficult phase, Ganguly said that Rahul should sit back, thinks and plan about his future courses to follow. He followed this by saying that Rahul is very talented he should just let his intuition take the best shot. His advice was clear: They promote confidence when you stand firm during adversity, mirrors and commit to playing differently. Earlier you played in twentieth-century in South Africa; now you can do so in twenty- first century but confidence is the key.
