Reliance on Monday showcased its fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) service at its Annual General Meeting (AGM). The service will have high speed broadband internet, landline, Jio HomeTV and Jio’s IoT.
It was announced that the much-awaited Jio Fiber services will begin on September 5. The packages will start at Rs 700 a month and the starting speed will be 100Mbps. The packages will go up to Rs 10,000 a month.
Chairman Mukesh Ambani claimed “US has average internet speed of 90Mbps, our base plan offers a higher speed”.
He also announced that ISD calling tariff would be 1/5th to 1/10th of industry rates and there will be unlimited US/Canada calling pack at ₹500 per month. Like Jio, local calls will be free on the landline.
The service will also come with high-value Jio Forever plans that will include HD/4K LED TVs and 4K set-top boxes.
Akash Ambani and Isha Ambani too spoke about the new service. They mentioned that the speeds would range between 100Mbps and 1Gbps.
Reliance revealed that it has plans to introduce a mixed reality (MR) startup Tesseract. MR can be used for virtual shopping, education and movies. The Tesseract VR headset was demonstrated as well.
Mukesh also revealed that Jio 4G+ is ready and can be upgraded to 5G. He also said that 10 million new customers are joining Jio every month.
The Jio Fiber preview offer is already being used by 5 lakh homes on a pilot basis. Reliance has planned to cover 20 million residences and 15 million businesses in 1,600 towns.
