New Delhi: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi held a discussion on Tuesday, focusing on the need for ensuring freedom of navigation in international waters and preventing attacks on the global economy and trade. Netanyahu briefed Modi on the recent Israel-Hamas conflict, expressing concern for the safety of maritime traffic. The leaders emphasised the importance of humanitarian assistance and resolving the conflict through dialogue and diplomacy, urging an early and peaceful solution.
In a phone call, the leaders also addressed the threatened freedom of navigation in the Bab-el-Mandeb Strait due to aggression from Iran-backed Huthi rebels. Both leaders recognised the importance of the Indian and Israeli economies. Modi stressed the global necessity of safeguarding freedom of navigation.
The two leaders exchanged views on the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict, sharing concerns about the security of maritime traffic. Modi emphasised India’s stance in favouring the early restoration of peace and stability in the region, reiterating India’s commitment to continued humanitarian assistance.
Furthermore, they discussed increasing the number of Indian workers in Israel to meet the construction industry’s needs. The leaders reaffirmed their commitment to remain in touch.
During his visit to India in April 2022, Israeli Economy Minister Nir Barkat discussed the possibility of hiring workers from India to address Israel’s industrial requirements. Netanyahu expressed gratitude to Modi for India’s support in Israel’s fight against the Hamas terrorist organisation, condemning the barbaric attacks of October 7.
