Bhubaneswar: On the occasion of the International Day of Older Persons on Tuesday, the Bhubaneswar Smart City Limited (BSCL) organised an event for the elderly, loaded with games and recreation at Sahid Nagar Kalyan Mandap here in the city.
State Coordinator, Patanjali Yuva Bharat Odisha, Pitambar Sahoo addressed the senior citizens and demonstrated three ‘Pranayams’ and three ‘Asanas’’ for a healthy life.
Other events like musical chairs, catch the ball, spoon and lemon race, shloka recitation, rangoli making, blow the balloon, bow and arrow and nail the tail were also organised.
Yoga expert and State Coordinator Patanjali Yuva Bharat Odisha, Pitambar Sahoo said, “The elderly have become lonely in many homes due to a busy life. Yoga can make them physically and mentally fit. Senior citizens can benefit immensely from yoga. They should adopt it as soon as possible.”
Professor Aditya Kumar Mohanty, managing trustee of Kitchen Garden Association, Maheswar Khillar was present among others.
The Odisha Government had also asked all the state-run schools to observe International Day for Older Persons on October 1.
Schools were asked to organise motivational lectures and talks with senior citizens and retired teachers. Under Secretary in the School and Mass Education Department, Bhagirathi Prusty issued the instructions.
The Odisha Government also organised a walkathon on the occasion.
Besides, a cultural function and health camp were organised by the Department of Social Security and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (SSEPD), Government of Odisha at Utkal Mandap in Bhubaneswar.
