New Delhi: Fed up with Instagram’s algorithm shoving unwanted Reels down your feed? Relief is in sight, as the platform is testing a game-changing feature that hands the reins back to users.
No more enduring videos on topics that don’t spark joy — soon, you’ll curate your own scroll with precision.
Instagram head Adam Mosseri announced the trial, which kicks off with Reels and will soon extend to the Explore feed. Users can now add or delete topics of interest at will, tweaking the algorithm to show more (or less) of what they fancy. “This is about giving you greater control over your experience,” Mosseri shared, aligning with Meta’s push for transparency in recommendations.
Imagine logging in and deciding: dial down dance challenges or amp up cooking hacks? The feature lets you fine-tune content volume per topic, making your feed a true reflection of your vibe. It’s the latest in a series of user-friendly updates — think limiting sensitive content, refining parental controls, and hiding unwanted posts — that Instagram has rolled out recently to build trust.
Adding to the excitement, the app recently launched Watch History, letting you revisit past Reels by date, week, or month. Finding old favourites, whether it’s a viral recipe from last Tuesday or a series worth bingeing on, has become easier.
As social media fatigue rises, this tweak could redefine how we engage online. Testing is limited to selected users for now, but a wider rollout promises a more personalised Instagram era. Stay tuned — your dream feed might be just a swipe away.
