Indore: A 24-year-old MBA student was allegedly strangled to death by her boyfriend and classmate in a rented flat in Indore after they had sex and got into a heated argument about marriage.
This shocking case has caused outrage in Madhya Pradesh. The accused, Piyush Dhamnotiya, not only ran away from the scene but also tried strange occult rituals while he was on the run, trying to “summon” her spirit and talk to her.
The last time anyone saw the victim alive was on January 10, when her father dropped her off near the Collector’s office. Residents called the police on January 13 because of a bad smell coming from a flat in the Uncle Gali, Dwarakapuri area, where they found her naked body. The body was on the bed, and there were signs of strangulation and rope binding.
Police investigations revealed that the couple, who lived together in the flat for educational purposes, had a tumultuous relationship characterised by frequent arguments. The victim’s family didn’t want her to get married, and Piyush became jealous of how she talked to other boys on mobile apps. On that fateful day, they met to make up and had sex, but the fight started again when they talked about getting married. Piyush choked her to death in a fit of rage.
After the murder, he is said to have stayed near the body for a while, possibly mistreated it, then locked the flat and fled to Maharashtra. He did tantric rituals in Panvel and later in Nala Sopara. He watched YouTube videos on how to call spirits, put her picture, mangalsutra, and bangles in a wooded area, and even wrote her name in his blood in the hopes of “calling back” her soul and saying sorry. He broke her phone and was later caught in Mumbai.
The Pandhrinath police station initially investigated the case as a missing person after receiving a report on February 11. Now, it has turned into a dark story of love, obsession, violence, and superstition. After the crime, the police said Piyush was mentally ill.
