Kanpur: In a remarkable display of aggressive cricket, India has set multiple records in their first innings during the second Test match against Bangladesh at Kanpur. Despite two days of play being lost to rain, the Indian team made the most of the remaining time, declaring their first innings after just 34.4 overs – a feat no team has accomplished in the 21st century.
After bowling Bangladesh out for 233 runs on the fourth day, India, led by captain Rohit Sharma, took an aggressive approach. Aware of the limited time available to force a result, the Indian team attacked the Bangladesh bowling line-up with an intensity rarely seen in Test cricket. India’s batting blitz saw them score 285 runs in just 34.4 overs, giving them a lead of 52 runs before declaring.
This is the shortest Test innings declaration in over 70 years and only the second time in history that a team has declared its first innings in fewer than 35 overs. India’s performance broke several longstanding records, including those for the fastest milestones at 50, 100, 150, 200, and 250 runs in Test history.
Yashasvi Jaiswal and captain Rohit Sharma led the charge with a blistering start, helping India reach 50 runs in just 3 overs, marking the fastest fifty in the history of Test cricket. The rapid acceleration continued as India reached 100 runs in 10.1 overs, followed by 150 runs in 18.2 overs, and 200 runs in just 24.2 overs – each achievement setting a new record for the fastest scores in Tests. India further broke records by reaching 250 runs in just 30.1 overs.
With these aggressive tactics, India has not only secured a strategic advantage in the match but has also left an indelible mark on Test cricket history with their rapid scoring.
